We got several reports from users were they were unable to list the processes running on a remote system.  When trying to list them via Servers Alive they received as error:

"Error getting the process information from <name>

 ERR: -1

"

Some of our users were able to solve this by making the following registry change on the system being monitored.

Hkey_local_machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/perfproc/performance/dissable performance counters

change the value from 1 to 0

For others is were the prefproc and remoteaccess counters that were disabled, you can enabled them using the EXCTRLST.EXE tool from the Windows Resource Kit. http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/exctrlst/1.00.0.1/nt5/en-us/exctrlst_setup.exe

For others some of the counters were corrupt, this technet article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490926.aspx) talks about a tool that helps you restore them. (lodctr /R:) - for remote access the file is rasctrs.ini

Customer praise

"[Servers Alive] has saved us many times from a disaster in the network. Comparing it to HP openview, I'd rather stick with Servers Alive, because it is simple, straight forward, easy to operate, easy to configure and has GREAT support."
