Can't list processes on a remote system
Last modified on 3-4-2012 10:42:38
We got several reports from users were they were unable to list the processes running on a remote system. When trying to list them via Servers Alive they received as error:
"Error getting the process information from <name>
ERR: -1
"
Some of our users were able to solve this by making the following registry change on the system being monitored.
Hkey_local_machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/perfproc/performance/dissable performance counters
change the value from 1 to 0
For others is were the prefproc and remoteaccess counters that were disabled, you can enabled them using the EXCTRLST.EXE tool from the Windows Resource Kit. http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/exctrlst/1.00.0.1/nt5/en-us/exctrlst_setup.exe
For others some of the counters were corrupt, this technet article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490926.aspx) talks about a tool that helps you restore them. (lodctr /R:
